The Battle of Mogadishu, or Day of the Rangers (Somali: Maalintii Rangers), was part of Operation Gothic Serpent. It was fought on 3–4 October 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia, between forces of the United States—supported by UNOSOM II—and Somali militiamen loyal to the self-proclaimed president-to-be Mohamed Farrah Aidid, who had support from armed fighters. The battle is also referred to as the First Battle of Mogadishu, to distinguish it amongst the nine major Battles of Mogadishu during the decades-long Somali Civil War.
The initial U.S. Joint Special Operations force, Task Force Ranger, was a collaboration of various elite special forces units from Army Special Operations Command, Air Force Special Operations Command and Navy Special Warfare Command; it consisted mostly of members from the 75th Ranger Regiment and Delta Force. Task Force Ranger was dispatched to seize two of Aidid’s high-echelon lieutenants during a meeting in the city. The goal of the operation was achieved, though conditions spiraled into the deadly Battle of Mogadishu. The initial operation of 3 October 1993, intended to last an hour, became an overnight standoff and rescue operation extending into the daylight hours of 4 October.
This big game scenario is based off of the D-Day Landing on the beaches of Normandy, France, at the end of the second World War; the landing of 24,000 US, British, and Canadian airborne troops. The men landed under heavy fire from gun emplacements overlooking the beaches, and the shore was mined and covered with obstacles such as wooden stakes, metal tripods, and barbed wire, making the work of the beach-clearing teams difficult and dangerous.
The American missions are as follows (The German missions are to defend against the following):
1 – Take the beach and secure HQ locations (Field: Landing zone/Bridge/Mountain/Valley)
2 – Secure German Mortar pits (Field: Valley/Mountain)
3 – Take over the German Ammo dump (Field: Dark Forest)
4 – Take the German Fuel station (Field: Jungle)
5 – Secure the German Radio Station (Field: Dark Forest)
6 – Retrieve the German Gold and bring it back to HQ (Field: Jungle/Dark Forest)
7 – Save the US prisoners of war (Field: Dark Forest Dead Zone)
8 – Take the town of Aachen (Field: Town)
9 – Take Berlin (Field: Castle)
10 – Take out the German Leader, Warlord Ben (Field: unknown)
BREAKING NEWS!!!! Today, a 9.5 magnitude earthquake registered in North Korea stirred full-out panic, inciting North Korean militia to unload the biological weaponry they’d been experimenting with. To ensure that the weapons would not unintentionally detonate on their own land in the quake, missiles containing all of the gathered biological materials were launched, pointed at high population areas all across the globe. Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania suffered most of the damage in North America, as a calculated warhead managed to level most of Washington DC. The remains of the capital gave birth to an entirely new threat when rumors of strange survivors began to surface, crawling from the wreckage and feasting on the bodies of the fallen.
The National Guard was dispatched to eliminate the threat, and though they fought valiantly, the zombies revealed their intelligence by obtaining and wielding their own firearms. The incapacitated humans proved to be much easier for the zombies to infect.
The Army followed suit, also falling to the zombie hordes in battle, and then the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps met similar fates. The remnants of the US military fled to secure bases and safe zones on the east and west coasts to regroup. Infected former military began to establish their own zombie Generals and power structures within the plagued masses, eventually emerging led by a main figurehead originating from the Marine Corps.
Rapidly, Zombies have taken over. Human survivors have begun to rally at Hogback Mountain, the only known safe zone on the East coast that has remained free of the infection. In the wake of the tragedy, Hogback’s physicians have banded together to create the first ever Antidote, a single-use vaccine that is functional only within the first few hours of infection. Reports have spread, twisting the factual antidote into a mythical cure, and drawing the attention of zombies seeking to become human again. Hogback Mountain has now come under attack, and the zombies have stolen all of the Antidotes and infected the Hogback doctors, as revenge, upon learning that the rumors of a miracle cure were a lie. The infection is spreading through Hogback and the human survivors are quickly becoming outnumbered. Killing the zombies allows the humans to reclaim their stolen antidotes, but even that doesn’t seem to be enough to stop the ever-spreading infection. In a last-ditch effort, a radio S.O.S. is placed by the remaining humans before they are forced to abandon their campsite refuge and flee into the mountains.
During a routine check for survivors, an S.O.S. is picked up by the remaining US Military who dispatch immediately to the mountains of Hogback for a rescue mission. Unfortunately, the trees of Hogback are too dense and they must land their helicopter in the only spot available amidst the woodland foliage, leaving themselves open to attack as they scour the land for survivors and attempt a Left For Dead run to assist the humans in reaching the extraction point.
Without the ability to create additional Antidotes, the zombie plague continues to claim victims until there remains only one Last Man Standing…
During a Christmas Eve test drive of the present delivery route for Christmas Day, Santa and his elves are struck with disaster. Mid-flight, the famous reindeer spook and send the sleigh into an uncontrollable spiral in the air. Presents fly through the sky in all possible directions as the passengers and vehicle all make their way towards the earth. Santa and the elves manage to steady their ride long enough to make a relatively safe crash landing directly below, onto Hogback Mountain. Safely on the ground, Santa is able to inspect the wreckage for the cause of the crash, and what he discovers is that his beautiful sleigh was tampered with. Someone wanted the reindeer frightened enough to cause a catastrophe.
Who would do such a thing?
Upon discovering that some of his elves are missing, Santa arranges his remaining elves in teams to send them in search of the missing presents and their friends, which are scattered all throughout the land of Hogback Mountain. It isn’t long before Santa learns that he and his elves are not alone on the mountain. The Grinch has been spotted with his own small army, absconding with the lost gifts. With the threat of a ruined Christmas Day, Santa calls in to the North Pole to request aid. The elf rescue squad arrives promptly, carting away the reindeer and dispatching to gather the other elves before they, too, are captured by the Grinch.
Before long, the rescue squads lose contact with Santa, who is no longer responding to their communications. With all of the elves accounted for, they continue their mission to rescue the presents, and eventually stumble into the Grinch’s camp, where they find Santa, captured and caged. As Christmas Eve is coming to an end, the race is on to collect the remaining presents and free Santa before Christmas day arrives and the holiday is ruined forever. Will the Grinch succeed in eliminating the Christmas holiday, or will the elf squads secure the presents and rescue Christmas?
